As you read this, you know that Mackenzie is no longer in pain and is with her savior. It is hard to write
this knowing that we will all hurt and grieve, but along this journey we will so often be flooded with her
smile, her laughter, her silliness, her courage, her strength, her love, and her bold faith! Thank you,
Mackenzie, for giving us all so much light, laughter, and love! Thank you for showing us that even
though we have challenges there is so much to love and fight for! Thank you for so courageously
fighting for us!
Mackenzie decided early in her battle with cancer to show her passion for living and loving! She utilized
her faith to keep her strength and hope along the way!
You may have known Mackenzie her entire life, or joined her journey prior to cancer, or joined after her
diagnosis, as she passionately and vulnerably let you into her days as she fought and prayed to reach full
remission for all of us, because she knew the void we would endure without her! She fought and shared
because she cared so deeply about her husband, parents, sisters, friends, community, and those that are
going through any type of struggle. Cancer does not define Mackenzie, she lived to give courage to any
struggle whether it be cancer, alcoholism, mental wellness, abuse, and just life.
Mackenzie had so many talents, but one that was not known was her ability to write poetry to share her
words deeply and passionately! Poetry was a way for her to journal her thoughts regarding her fight
with cancer, her love for her husband, her love of her family and friends, and her love to share with
others.
Mackenzie did not write and publish “This is What it Feels Like, a book of poems written by a cancer
patient” for any other reason, than to help share with others and express what she felt and went
through…..to give others the ability and courage to express themselves to their loved ones. Frequently,
Mackenzie heard from families, that had loved ones battling, her poetry gave them insight to the
feelings that their loved one may have, but not able to express.
Because of Mackenzie’s deep desire to assist others by sharing and her desire to bring people to her lord
and savior.…Brandon, her family, and friends will keep this website active to continue to reach
Mackenzie’s goal of sharing “This is What it Feels Like” by selling 100,000 copies.

During my battle with cancer, I've found myself writing through both the most hopeful and the most difficult moments. Those writings became my debut book, This Is What It Feels Like, a collection of 45 poems and illustrations that tell my story.
I created this book to raise awareness and share what the lived experience of cancer truly feels like. It is my dedication to those currently in the fight, those who have survived, those grieving a loss, and all the loved ones trying to understand. It's my deepest hope that through these poems and drawings, you will find comfort, encouragement, and a powerful reminder that you do not walk this journey alone.

The "My Mantra Project" is an art project I created to empower individuals facing any life battle. A "mantra" is a word or phrase that is often repeated and expresses a strong belief, often used by individuals to persevere in times of adversity. I founded this art project as an artist and blood cancer fighter. My mantra and inspiration behind this project and website is in 'I AM THE STORM'. This mantra has gotten me through my battle with cancer. My vision is to draw a portrait with the "fighter's" mantra written on it, along with sharing their story on social media through a timelapse video (with the individual's permission). I want to draw for anyone who is a fighter or survivor of any adversity, big or small - whether it's cancer, addiction, abuse, mental illness, etc.
